Starting up!

So, in my quest to fill my time, while my computer is vacationing in Cincinnati, I have re-joined Netflix. And, since I do nothing half-way, my queue (totally thought it was spelled que) is already up to 120 DVDs. I managed not only to find the 61 movies that I wanted to do but also many of the TV shows that I mentioned earlier, plus Saved by the Bell! Of course, the first review you can expect is The Breakfast Club.

Angela totally warned me about this!

When I got this blog Angela advised me to start making up excuses as to why I haven't updated in awhile ("my real life got in the way," etc.). I assured her, that since I had no life there would be no need to have any excuses at the ready. However, I did not anticipate LEAVING MY COMPUTER IN OHIO. D'oh! So, here is my excuse. My computer is 6 hours (or 5.5 hours if you average 70-75 mph) away in Louisville, OH. My parents are going to take it home with them (to Cincinnati, 8-10 hours away) and bring it with them at the beginning of May (when they come out for Luke's First Communion). Therefore, for the next month, my nights and weekends on the internet will depend on the kindness of my roommates (or them not being home and me just stealing their computers). How does this effect the blog? Updates will only occur at work (like that wasn't going to happen anyway) or when I can "borrow" a computer from a roommate.

There is an upside however. With all of the free time I will have because I am not playing around on the internet I can actually start working on the schtick of this blog. The schtick that I stated the very first day I put anything on the internet. The schtick that inspired my childhood...I can start reviewing the movies and TV of my youth. The time has come. The time is now.... Or tomorrow when I re-up my Netflix membership and then 2-3 business days after that when the first few movies come. Then of course the lag between actually watching the movies and writing something up. So not so much right "NOW" as "now-ish."

How much is too much cheese?

Is $80 of cheese excessive? If my roommates are lucky maybe some baby swiss or garlic cheese will make it home, along with the chocolate macadamia nuts.

Happy Easter!

Dude, how could I miss this?

Also, a question: A multicolored lollipop cross, sacrilegious or sacrelicious?

How will I ever choose?

Ah man, just when I had my list of movies (61, by the way) that I wanted to review I am bombarded with more topic options. You guessed it my friends, Doogie Howser, M.D. season 1 is now out on DVD and Netflix has it. Not only is Doogie now available, but also out are: Growing Pains, 21 Jump Street, Family Ties (apparently only on video... but that just means the DVD has to be in the works), Punky Brewster, The Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, In Living Color, Night Court, and Three's Company. I have not yet been able to find The Facts of Life...I guess for some reason there is not a huge demand (heh). All of these options will not be good for any socal life that I hoped to have. Who am I kidding? I didn't really have one in the first place. However, one saving grace is that not all of these are available on Netflix (or DVD) at this time. Another is that I have yet to find copies of 3-2-1 Contact and The Bloodhound Gang available in any format. Man I loved that show (shut up I know I am a dork. I liked Square One too; I hung out at the library; and I ate granola bars in the park with my friends after dark. Want to make something of it? I thought not.) Hopefully I will be able to pace myself. Although, I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew...

Things that make you go hmmm...

Two things:

1) I don't think I am actually going to limit myself to the '80s... but just review teen movies in general. And, actually I may be a little loose on the "teen" aspect of the movies too. I know, I know, not even 24 hours with a blog and I am already changing my shtick (I think I may spell it with the "c" anyway; I just like it better. I will use the "c" if I ever say schtick on the blog again... and there it is). It probably would have been better to say that I will be reviewing movies that were a large part of my formative years.

2) How do we feel about a man reading a smut novel? The novel in question was One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. I have read this book, part of the Stephanie Plum series. A short run down: she is a bail bond officer who ends up in ca-razy situations, usually involving a murder and her car being destroyed in some fashion. Along the way there is sex (normally with an on again off again love interest and occasionally another bail bonder). Overall it is not a bad smut novel. I have read the rest of the series and have enjoyed each book. I think my big hang up is that it was a man reading the book.

I didn't have a problem with him reading it. It was just... strange. Now, I have been thinking, what could have brought this man to the point of reading this book? I noticed it was a library book, so maybe he picked it up thinking it was more of a "whodunit" and didn't realize it was a smut novel. This is actually a fairly viable option since, if I remember correctly, there wasn't all that much smut. But he still would have had to go into the adult/women's literature section to pick it out. Now, another option, I also noticed that he was married. Maybe his wife checked it out and he borrowed it from her since he was out of reading material for the commute. Because, while he seemed to be engrossed, he wasn't all that far in. It could be either of these options, a combination of the two, or a number of others, however still weird to me. Regardless, I have spent entirely too much time contemplating this man and his book.

Dude, I just checked the amazon link I posted above, and of the like 4 reviews, three of them were written by men. Is there some sort of secret society out there for men that read smut? Well, I guess that's not it since these three guys would have ruined it for all the other members. Maybe, Janet Evanovich just translates well for men. Still....you know, smut.

I'm not making any promises here...

Here we go... I am not sure how successful this will be. But I figured everyone else had one, why not jump on the bandwagon? However, I didn't just want to have another boring blog out there, I figured I needed some sort of shtick (who knew it wasn't schtick? I have always over pronounced the c in a feeble attempt to be funny). As many people know I am a big fan of the '80s; the music, the movies, the hair. From this comes the idea for my blog. The plan: take a teen movie from the '80s, give a short recap/review and a "where are they now" segment. The goal: one to two movies a month. The pay-off: to be one of the in crowd and have the most popular blog ever*.

I am not sure when the first movie entry will be; setting up this blog is only the first step. I now have to 1) re-start my Netflix membership in order to gain access to the movies of my youth 2) receive the first movie and 3) write the review/recap/where are they now.

*Or at least the most popular blog at 531 B Fern Pl NW.
